IWitness Offers Summer Webinars for Teachers

Educators can continue their professional development over the summer with a series of IWitness webinars hosted by USC Shoah Foundation. Each webinar focuses on a specific aspect of teaching using genocide survivor and witness testimonies from USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive.

Webinars are free and open to anyone to register. They are led by facilitators from USC Shoah Foundation.

May 18, 2017, 4-5 p.m. PDT Teach Music, Art & Performance Through Audiovisual Testimony

Learn to seamlessly develop students' digital literacy and arts education and explore multimedia activities for use in arts classrooms

May 23, 2017, 4-5 p.m. PDT Enhancing Your Holocaust Curriculum with Technology

Explore testimony-based multimedia activities, resources, and tools available in IWitness, the educational website integrated with Echoes & Reflections, to enhance teaching of the Holocaust. Participants will learn how audiovisual testimony of witnesses to the Holocaust serves as a powerful tool for engaging students in meaningful ways.

June 7, 2017, 1-2 p.m. PDT Teaching about the Holocaust through Story

This webinar will demonstrate the power of using audiovisual testimony to promote student learning, information and digital literacy, as well as critical thinking within the context of Holocaust curriculum. Participants will learn guidelines and instructional strategies for using audiovisual testimony found in Echoes & Reflections and the IWitness website.

June 15, 2017, 4-5 p.m. PDT Promote Close Reading of Text through Audiovisual Primary Sources

Learn strategies for promoting close reading through the use of audiovisual testimonies of witnesses to 20th century history, and learn how to use word clouds to assess comprehension.

July 11, 2017, 1-2 p.m. PDT Enhancing Your Holocaust Curriculum with Technology

Learn about IWitness, a free educational website offering audiovisual testimonies for use across the curriculum, and how to access, use and create curriculum with audiovisual testimony.

August 8, 2017, 4-5 p.m. PDT Teaching about the Holocaust with English Language Learners

This webinar will demonstrate how to powerfully engage English language learners in the study of the Holocaust through audiovisual testimony. Drawing upon resources and content found in Echoes & Reflections and other sources, participants will learn guidelines and instructional strategies that can promote English language learners’ understanding of the Holocaust while also building academic language.

August 17, 2017, 4-5 p.m. PDT Learn to Use Digital Teacher Tools in IWitness

Learn to use a virtual classroom to engage students in powerful learning through testimonies of witnesses to 20th century history, and learn to monitor and assess student work.
