USC Leadership Visits Israel

Institute part of delegation that toured academic and cultural institutions, met with Israeli leadership

The USC Shoah Foundation Institute participated in the University of Southern California's recent educational visit to Israel.

USC President C.L. Max Nikias and Mrs. Niki Nikias lay a wreath in the Hall of Memory at Yad VashemA delegation led by USC President C. L. Max Nikias, Mrs. Niki C. Nikias, and USC Provost Elizabeth Garrett, traveled to Israel to learn more about the country's high-tech sector, strengthen academic ties, and engage in high-level discussions with leaders of government, industry, and cultural organizations.  Other delegates included USC Trustees, deans, faculty members, and senior administrators.

At the conclusion of the visit, Stephen D. Smith, Executive Director of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, joined President Nikias and Mrs. Nikias for a special tour of Yad Vashem, where they met Asher Ud, a survivor of the Holocaust, who recalled his experiences in the Lodz ghetto of Poland.  Smith also attended a memorial ceremony (above) where the Nikias laid a wreath in Yad Vashem's Hall of Remembrance to honor those who lost their lives in the Holocaust.
