FREE WEBINAR: USING IWITNESS IN A FACING HISTORY CLASSROOM

Mon, 05/13/2013 - 10:44am

Facing History and Ourselves is partnering with the USC Shoah Foundation to explore how Facing History teachers can use IWitness, the Institute’s educational website, to shape teaching and learning experiences for students in a Facing History course.

IWitness gives educators and students access to search, watch, and learn from more than 1,000 video testimonies of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses. Each eyewitness testimony is available in a flexible online video format, providing an avenue to engage students directly in inquiry-based, multimedia learning. Facing History teachers may use IWitness in world history, civics, language arts, elective, and other classes. Testimony can also be used to enhance any aspect of the Facing History scope and sequence. By providing a context for students to remix footage from the IWitness site to create their own statements, this project will encourage students to engage on an individual level, reflect deeply, and make connections to their own lives.

Facing History’s Director of Program Technology Deb Chad and Facing History educator and USC Shoah Master Teacher Brandon Haas, will be presenting a webinar tomorrow, May 14, 2013. Join them for a demonstration and conversation on how IWitness can be used to enhance Facing History. They will also be joined by other Facing educators who will share how they have used IWitness in their Facing History classes, as well as information about a new exciting video challenge you can engage your students in today.

The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 8:00pm EST.
