Tento sestřih z filmových vzpomínek pamětníků původně vznikl jako součást programu 5. výroční konference Centra vizuální historie Malach při Univerzitě Karlově v Praze. Úryvky z rozhovorů vybrané Jakubem Mlynářem, koordinátorem CVHM, a sestříhané Martinem Šmokem, konzultantem USC SF, ukazují nejen rozsah a hloubku Archivu vizuální historie, ale jsou také kulturním a emocionálním zážitkem. Zachycují roli, jakou v našich životech a vzpomínkách hrají písně a nápěvy.

 Aristides de Sousa Mendes was a Portuguese diplomat stationed in Bordeaux in the late 1930s who issued tens of thousands of visas to Jewish families, in direct violation of anti-Jewish laws instituted by Portugal’s fascist government at the time. For this act of resistance, Sousa Mendes faced trials and conviction, leaving him to live out the rest of his life in poverty and disgrace, and his 15 children scattered all over Europe and the U.S.

Survivors describe their memories of Auschwitz in the following selection of English-language clips from the Visual History Archive. A total of 11,780 testimonies in the Visual History Archive mention Auschwitz; these testimonies were conducted in 26 languages and 45 countries.
