The History Meeting House in Warsaw has become the first institution in Poland to offer full access to the Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education.  Nearly 52,000 videotaped testimonies of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses, recorded in 56 countries and in 32 languages—mostly between 1994 and 1999—can now be remotely accessed via an online interface that allows searching and viewing the fully indexed video and related metadata.

On March 25 and 26, 2010, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute hosted its first international academic conference.The International Digital Access, Outreach, and Research Conference brought together representatives from 25 universities, museums, and other institutions that have access to the Institute's Visual History Archive, to discuss how it is being used in academia.

In July 2010, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute conducted a follow-up workshop with graduates of the 2009 Master Teacher Workshop.  During the two-day workshop, each teacher presented his or her testimony-based lesson, which was developed as a result of the workshop, and discussed opportunities for continued involvement in the program.  Funding for the Teacher Innovation Network is provided by the Leichtag Family Foundation.Album posted on:  September 3, 2010

The Institute is working with the Holocaust Documentation Center (DHS) in Slovakia to assist the development of additional lessons based on testimony from the archive.  At a DSH-organized seminar in Bratislava, Martin Šmok presented clips of testimony from local survivors, and two lesson authors–Eva Kizáková and Alica Virdzeková–demonstrated their lessons to the participants.Album posted on:  December 19, 2008

The inaugural workshop of the Institute's Teaching with Testimony for the 21st Century program ran from July 1-6 at Central European University in Budapest.  The program for teachers in Europe provides professional development training centered on the educational use of Holocaust eyewitness testimony.  Twenty teachers from across Hungary (and three from Hungarian-speaking regions beyond the national border) completed the workshop, which prepared them to produce their own testimony-based classroom lessons and activities.

From mid-October through mid-December, four staff members from the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center (KGMC) will intern at the USC Shoah Foundation Institute.Yves Kamuronsi, head of the Documentation Center of the KGMC, and three colleagues—Diogene Mwizerwa, Martin Niwenshuti, and Paul Rukesha—will study the Institute's indexing methodology and lend their expertise to the development of indexing terminology appropriate for the Rwandan Tutsi genocide experience.  They will also spend time learning about the technology being used to preserve the testimonies digitally.

On April 4, 2011, the Institute hosted high school students from San Francisco, who are studying the Holocaust as part of an after school program through the Jewish Family and Children's Services Holocaust Center (JFCS).  Led by JFCS Director of Education Morgan Blum, five students who received the JFCS Manovill Holocaust History Fellowship developed video projects using testimonies in the Institute's archive of Bay Area Holocaust survivors.  The students presented their video projects on topics such as surviving Westerbork concentration camp, partisans, choices, bold instincts, and African

The USC Shoah Foundation Institute (SFI) planned a workshop at the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) at Freie Universität Berlin, to organize a two and one-half-day workshop dedicated to integrating video testimonies into secondary school classroom instruction.  Looking at History:  Incorporating Video Testimony Across the Curriculum was held on the campus of the Freie Universität, where the Shoah Foundation Institute’s entire Visual History Archive has been available and searchable since 2006.  The goal of the workshop was to bring the Institute’s international partners from Europe

Educators from the state of Tennessee, some traveling up to three hours, gathered at the Sara Simpson Professional Development Technology Center in Knoxville to participate in an Echoes and Reflections program on Wednesday, February 13.  Organized by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission Inc., more than 20 secondary school educators received training as well as a copy of the award-winning Echoes and Reflections resource guide.

On January 25, at the United Nations in New York, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute hosted a reception for the opening of Generations:  Survival and the Legacy of Hope, a video installation which explores the impact of the Holocaust on four families across three generations.  Generations was developed by the UK Holocaust Centre.

The 2012 Student Voices Film Contest was held April 5, 2012.  The evening included an award ceremony, screening, and panel discussion.Fifteen short films were submitted this year and developed around the following themes:  Whose Responsibility is "Never Again,” Inheriting Genocide, and The Outsider in Me.
