A Conversation Between Professors Yehuda Bauer (Hebrew University, Emeritus) and Xu Xin (Nanjing University)Noted Holocaust scholar Professor Yehuda Bauer is Professor Emeritus of History and Holocaust Studies at the Avraham Harman Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Academic Advisor to Yad Vashem. Credited with widely expanding Holocaust education within Chinese academia, Professor Xu Xin is the Director of the Glazer Institute of Jewish Studies at Nanjing University, where he initiated the undergraduate and graduate Jewish Studies programs.

Eva discusses a ghetto pass policy enforced in the Hongkew ghetto in Shanghai, China, during the war. Eva explains that she had to pass the ghetto checkpoint on a daily basis, as the school she attended was located outside of her living district. She talks about the impact from her encounters with Kanoh Ghoya, a Japanese official who was in charge of issuing the ghetto passes.

In Soviet-occupied Dubienka, Poland, located by the Bug River and on the border with Ukraine, Sam Szor remembers the military fortification by German armed forces in anticipation of the upcoming invasion of the Soviet Union. He describes the invasion, which took place in the dawn of the morning hours of June 22, 1941. It was his birthday. He recalls the retreat of the Soviet armed forces and the resulting fear felt by the Jewish population with the German occupation of Dubienka.
