The Roma and Sinti People in Italy

  • Roma and Sinti people in Italy: 130,000-170,000 or 0.23% of the total population. This percentage is among the lowest in Europe. Numerically speaking, this group is very small and does not represent an "emergency."
  • 50% of the Roma and Sinti people in Italy are Italian citizens.
  • Not a nomadic population: 85-90% of the Roma and Sinti people in Europe have been sedentary for a long time. Only 2-3% of the Roma and Sinti people in Italy are nomads.
  • A population of children: 60% of the Roma and Sinti people in Italy are under 18 years old. Of those, 30% are aged between 0 and 5 years, 47% between 6 and 14, and 23% are aged between 15 and 18.
    Only 2-3% are over 60.
