In Search of a Global Ethic: Lessons from the Big Cities

Michael Ignatieff, the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs Centennial Chair, will then give a public talk at USC, “In Search of a Global Ethic: Lessons from the Big Cities” from 4-6 PM on the 21st where he discusses the “lessons learned” during his time in Los Angeles. A distinguished academic, authority on human rights, and former national political leader, Michael Ignatieff holds joint appointments as Professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto and at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Known for his work as a historian, Ignatieff has also held senior academic posts at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and Harvard University. Ignatieff is one of the most influential voices in the global debate on human rights, as well as the distinguished author of an acclaimed biography of British academic Sir Isaiah Berlin and such award-winning works as Blood and Belonging and The Rights Revolution. He is leading the Carnegie Council’s three-year project called Ethics for a Connected World. This project connects public intellectuals, business leaders, policymakers, religious leaders, students, and educators from across the globe to explore how shared ethical and moral values can be incorporated into action to confront international challenges.
