Joseph André Scheinmann Album

André Scheinman ran a network of 300 spies while working as a German translator for the French railroad during the war.

André, on the right, with his parents, Max and Regina, and an aunt at a café in Paris in 1939. Max and Regina were killed in Auschwitz in 1942.

André was liberated from Dachau in April 1945, and kept his uniform as a remembrance when he moved to Paris after the war.

After the war, André visited Rennes, in northern France, where he was a German POW and then a member of the French resistance.

Claire Dyment, a German Jewish linguist, intercepted and decoded German radio messages for British intelligence. Claire and André married in 1946.
