Finding Oscar (The Official Trailer)

Watch the official trailer for the documentary Finding Oscar that follows the search for a boy who is living proof of the 1982 Dos Erres massacre that wiped out a community in Guatemala.

By 1982, a long-running civil war between the Guatemalan government and leftist rebels had escalated to a genocidal peak, with tens of thousands of Guatemalans disappearing at the hands of the military. With the tacit blessing of the Reagan administration, the Guatemalan military wiped out entire villages under the pretext of stamping out a Marxist insurgency.

One such village was Dos Erres, whose 200-plus residents vanished overnight without a trace, leaving behind a ghost town in the lush highlands. What happened? Where did the people of this farming village go?

Finding Oscar is the story of how a team of dogged investigators and forensic anthropologists got to the bottom of this mystery. Their detective work leads them to the grim discovery of what happened to the villagers. It also leads them to the conclusion that only two survivors -- who were kidnapped by the invaders as toddlers -- can help them track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. One of them is Oscar. After years of searching, the investigators finally locate him in Massachusetts, living with his wife and young children.
