The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument

Community, Memorialization and Commemoration

The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument

In February, the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument at Bicknell Park in Montebello, California, was officially recognized as a California State Historical landmark. In light of this recognition, join us for an on-site educational experience at the Monument for middle school and high school educators.

This professional development opportunity invites educators to engage with the USC Shoah Foundation’s testimony-based IWalk, “The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument: Community, Memorialization and Commemoration”, which contextualizes and humanizes the history of the Armenian Genocide and the establishment of this historic Monument. This IWalk is also meant to be a resource for middle school and high school students as well as the general public.

Educators will:

  • Access the USC Shoah Foundation’s IWalk mobile application and download the IWalk for the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument of Montebello.
  • Engage with the testimony-based IWalk on-site guided by Institute staff.
  • Discover how this IWalk contextualizes and humanizes the history of the Armenian Genocide and the establishment of this memorial.
