Institute's Dr. Dan Leshem to speak at seminar in Lithuania
Dr. Dan Leshem, Associate Director for Academic Outreach and Research, is representing the Institute at a seminar in Lithuania on "Training teacher-trainers: European Holocaust History, Human Rights, and Tolerance Today".
Organized by the United States Embassy, Vilnius, the Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, this five-day workshop brings together scholars from around the world to discuss topics related to Lithuanian history, Holocaust education in Lithuania, and teaching with testimony.
Dr. Leshem’s presentation, “Teaching Testimony: Hearing the Voices of Conscience,” will offer attendees a brief history of the Institute’s collection work and introduce some of the prevalent themes among Lithuanian testimonies in the archive. Participants in the session will also explore the potential uses of these testimonies in Lithuanian classrooms.
The seminar is being held at the Kaunas Hotel from June 13 to 17, 2011.
