Anita Ekstein remembers Soviet troops occupying her home town in Synowódzko Wyzne, Poland (now Ukraine), from 1939-1941. She states her life was not drastically altered by their presence. However, the Soviet troops eventually retreated as German forces closed in, and at this time, Anita and her family were forced into hiding.

Special Education teacher Andra Coulter has worked for the Calgary Board of Education since 2006 teaching in a unique setting for students who demonstrate severe externalizing behaviors. Coulter builds upon the existing abilities of her students to promote the development of their strengths, skills and attributes across school, home and social environments. Coulter has a background in the non-profit sector, working and volunteering for various local agencies prior to her work as a teacher. USC Shoah Foundation’s first-ever Texas A&M teaching fellow Adam R. Seipp is drawing on the Visual History Archive to help him fill some pretty big shoes.Seipp, a professor of history, will be taking over Texas A&M’s Introduction to the Holocaust course following the retirement of beloved Professor Arnold Krammer. The course is one of the most popular at the school, so teaching it is an incredible responsibility, Seipp said – but, he’ll do it with the support of the A.I. and Manet Schepps Foundation Teaching Fellow program.

Steven Spielberg, founder of USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education, will present William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, with the Institute’s Ambassador for Humanity Award at the organization’s annual gala, taking place this year in Detroit on September 10, 2015. Ford will be recognized for his leadership and corporate citizenry around education and community. Mickey Shapiro, real estate developer and longstanding member of the Institute’s Board of Councilors, is the event’s co-chairman.
