The IFFF Humanitarian Award is bestowed on a person, organization or film that consistently demonstrates the highest level of integrity, concern and compassion for human welfare with an abiding respect for the family bond. This year’s IFFF Humanitarian Award is presented to Mr. Eric Kabera and the film, INTORE. This powerful and touching documentary shares a story of Rwandan hope, survival and forgiveness.

In this documentary, Peter Logue explores the legacy that was left behind by the members of the White Rose after they were executed at the hands of the Gestapo. Through extensive interviews with scholars and conversations with current University of Munich students, Logue asks us all to consider what we can learn from the White Rose today and, most importantly, "what would you have done?"

Based on recently-discovered letters by Otto Frank in the YIVO Institute of Jewish Research’s archives, the film also includes interviews with Anne Frank’s surviving family.The screening wil be followed by a Q&A with Eva Geiringer-Schloss, Otto Frank’s stepdaughter, and director Paula Fouce.

Hosted by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, the film tells the stories of four survivors from the Nazi German concentration camp.“Voices of Auschwitz” will air nationally on Jan. 27 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation.The USC screening will be followed by a half-hour panel discussion featuring two CNN producers. Stephen Smith, executive director of USC Shoah Foundation, will moderate.

USC Gould School of Law Room 130Since his appointment to the ICTY in 2000, Judge Pocar has served as a Judge in a Trial Chamber, where he sat on the first case concerned with rape as a crime against humanity, and in the Appeals Chamber of the Tribunal, where he is still sitting. As a Judge of the Appeals Chamber, he is also a Judge of the Appeals Chamber for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). On appeal, he has participated in the adoption of the final judgments in several ICTY and ICTR cases, heard in both the Hague and in Arusha, Tanzania.

Hundreds of those recipes were copied in small notebooks by starving human beings of all origins - women, men, young, old, French, Russian, American - who took huge risks to write and keep them. Telling about these objects of survival, Imaginary Feasts explores a phenomenon of incredible resistance. Until now, no study or publication has ever been made on these objects. 

Dr. Gardner and Dr. Immordino-Yang will engage in conversation about the art and science of teaching and learning in the 21st century. In an age where information is distributed and consumed widely, the need to develop critical thinkers who behave responsibly in global society grows. In this landscape, empathy becomes an important learning skill, and scientific research holds the potential to inform the ways in which empathy undergirds ethics. In this landscape, how should scientific researchers translate their work for teachers and learners?

Dr. Wolf Gruner, Chair of the USC Center for Advanced Genocide Research, will be presenting a paper at "Gender, Memory and Genocide. An International Conference Marking 100 Years Since the Armenian Genocide," held in Berlin, Germany, at The Center for Research on Antisemitism, Berlin Institute of Technology.

This definitive new short film, produced by Steven Spielberg, directed by James Moll and narrated by Meryl Streep, was created for the official commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The honored guest is Auschwitz survivor Israel Arbeiter, who will share his life experiences including his recent trip back to Poland.

In commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, the USC Shoah Foundation will be co-sponsoring "Sharing Our Stories: Voices of Survivors." The event will bring together a panel of speakers representing the Holocaust and the Armenian, Bosnian, Cambodian, and Rwandan genocides. The speakers will share their personal experiences, and their paths toward healing, forgiveness, and re-establishing livelihoods in Los Angeles.

Join USC Shoah Foundation, USC Thornton School of Music and DEFY: The USC Shoah Foundation Student Association for an evening of film and music at Joyce J Cammilleri Hall.“Melodies of Auschwitz” follows USC Thornton School of Music students and USC Shoah Foundation interns Ambrose Soehn and Alex Biniaz-Harris as they compose a piano suite based on the testimonies of Holocaust survivors for the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz.

 Three women tell their stories of struggle, courage, and resilience, and share their vision for women in rebuilding societies broken by genocide. Join us for a thuought-provoking night of discussion exploring women's integral role in post-conflict development. This event is presented in honor of USC Genocide Awareness month. 

"Singing in the Lion's Mouth: Music as Resistance to Violence" is an event sponsored by USC Visions and Voices, and organized by the USC Shoah Foundation Center for Advanced Genocide Research in collaboration with the Thornton School of Music. The event will include two days of programming that highlight the use of music as a tool to resist oppression and spread awareness.

Dr. Kori Street will be presenting on "Social Media in Holocaust Education" at the 30th annual conference for the Association of Holocaust Organizations.

Steven Spielberg, founder of USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education, will present William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, with the Institute’s Ambassador for Humanity Award at the organization’s annual gala, taking place this year in Detroit on September 10, 2015. Ford will be recognized for his leadership and corporate citizenry around education and community. Mickey Shapiro, real estate developer and longstanding member of the Institute’s Board of Councilors, is the event’s co-chairman.
