The first interview recorded as a pilot for what will become the Visual History Archive is with Holocaust survivor Isabella Goldstein. The interview structure came from Spielberg's desire to tell a complete life story; survivors would be asked to talk about their background before the war began, describe their experiences during the war, and relate how their lives had unfolded in its aftermath. This three-part format becomes the standard throughout the project.
