A discussion of Holocaust testimonies, including video testimonies, in terms of “traumatic limit events,” the interplay between traumatic memory and historical research, and the effect these testimonies have on the listeners. LaCapra argues that individual memory, although challenged by historical scholarship in terms of its accuracy and reliability, is crucial for the process of coming to terms with the past on both the individual and collective levels.
