Father Patrick Desbois, co-founder of Yahad–In Unum, and author of The Holocaust By Bullets, gave the keynote address at the Institute's 2012 Yom Hashoah commemoration. The event took place on April 19 at USC.

The grandson of a French prisoner held in the Rawa Ruska camp on the Poland-Ukraine border during World War II, in 2004 Father Desbois began to research the story of the Jewish, Roma, and other victims murdered in Eastern Europe during the war by the Nazi mobile killing units, the Einsatzgruppen. He has devoted his life to researching the Holocaust, fighting antisemitism, and furthering relations between Catholics and Jews.
