Screening of Behind This Convent, a Documentary Film about the 1994 Rwandan Tutsi Genocide

Wed, 03/05/2008 - 12:00am

On March 25, the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture, the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and the USC Shoah Foundation Institute will host a screening of Behind This Convent, a documentary film directed by Gilbert Ndahayo that details the tragedy that befell his village during the 100-day Rwandan Tutsi Genocide of 1994 that claimed as many as 1,000,000 lives.

Upon returning to his home at the age of 13, Ndahayo discovered the bodies of his family and 200 other villagers in a pit in his backyard. Through his use of testimony from survivors, the emotional story of the nuns who witnessed the horror, and the confession of his parents' murderer, Ndahayo documents the genocide and its aftermath.

The screening will take place at 3:00 PM in Leavey Auditorium. Admission is free, but seating is limited. To RSVP, please call (213) 740-6724, or send an email to mcnear@usc.edu.
