USC Shoah Foundation Introduces Next Generation Council

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 4:30pm

USC Shoah Foundation has created a new leadership group to help bolster its strategic goals, programs, and activities. The Next Generation Council will be composed of community and business leaders, entertainment and media trendsetters, philanthropists, and social entrepreneurs from across the country, as well as children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors.

Susan Crown, chairman and founder of social investment organization SCE, will serve as the Next Generation Council’s national chair. “I consider it a great responsibility and a true honor to be the inaugural chair of the Next Generation Council,” says Crown, who is the current vice chair and former chair of the Shoah Foundation’s Board of Councilors. “I look forward to assembling an enthusiastic and talented array of leaders who will help reinforce the connection between the experiences of past generations and the lives of future generations.”

Members of the Next Generation Council will ensure that we have a legacy of caretakers for the archive as well as enlisting new energy and ideas to benefit the overall Institute

Next Generation Council members will work with the USC Shoah Foundation’s senior management to advise on matters ranging from educational and scholarship programs to digital technology and preservation to fundraising and policy issues. In addition to its own regular meetings, once a year the group will meet in conjunction with the Board of Councilors.

The group will also serve to connect the USC Shoah Foundation’s resources and programs to future generations. “One of the most important functions of the USC Shoah Foundation and the Visual History Archive is to convey the stories of survivors through generation after generation,” says Executive Director Stephen Smith. “Members of the Next Generation Council will ensure that we have a legacy of caretakers for the archive as well as enlisting new energy and ideas to benefit the overall Institute.”
