Colloquium on the Holocaust in the Balkans Academic Year 2025-2026

The Division of Academic Programs at the USC Shoah Foundation and the Shoah Lab at the University of Belgrade Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory invite applications from PhD candidates and early-career scholars for its Colloquium on the Holocaust in the Balkans. We welcome applications from scholars in any discipline whose research explores the histories and legacies Holocaust in this region.

Ten applicants will be chosen for the 2025-2026 academic year. Each member of the cohort will receive access to the USC Shoah Foundation’s archive, which currently holds over 59,000 video testimonies of survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust and other genocides. During monthly meetings, the incumbents will have the opportunity to present their research, discuss theoretical and methodological frameworks, and network with other scholars. Participants will receive feedback from Dr. Milovan Pisarri, Coordinator of the Shoah Lab.

Eligibility requirements: Candidates must be either currently enrolled in an accredited PhD program or have received a PhD no earlier than 2020.

Acceptance to the colloquium is awarded on a competitive basis. Applications must be submitted to Holocaust in the Balkans Colloquium no later than midnight PT on August 15, 2025. Complete applications will consist of the following:

• Letter of Intent
• Project proposal of approximately 1000 words
• Curriculum vitae

Please note: only applications that have submitted each of the required materials will be considered for the colloquium. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by September 1, 2025.
