Pouze u nás byli za odmítání rozvodu vězněni, internováni a deportováni do koncentračních táborů.

Pomoc, kterou deportovaným poskytovali příbuzní chránění sňatkem s „árijcem“ je historiky často přehlížena. Vinohradský příběh Věry Saudkové je unikátnější tím, že deportovanými příbuznými byly v jejím případě sestry Franze Kafky, dnes celosvětově slavného spisovatele a pražské intelektuální a turistické ikony. Gabriela (Elli), Valerie (Valli) a Otylie (Ottla) Kafkovy se konce války nedožily.

Ruth Bachner recalls how her family was saved by Father Bruno Reynders who organized different locations for her family members to hide. Ruth recalls how she and her brother lived in a convent while her parents stayed in a separate location in Belgium.

Erica Emihovich recalls the Anschluss and how Austrians gathered in the streets to see Hitler and the Nazi party. She describes how fearful she felt when she saw the Nazis marching down the street and how her entire life changed after the occupation.

Specific places in genocide histories occupy different psychological spaces for survivors, witnesses, and visitors. When a place is preserved, or restored for the purpose of memorialization it is inherently transformed. This panel explores various aspects of this transformation: preparation, planning, execution, and consequences.
