IWitness Goes Live on iPads and Tablets
USC Shoah Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the tablet-compatible version of its award-winning educational website IWitness.
Educators and students can search, watch and engage with the testimonies in IWitness on their iPads or tablet devices after 5 p.m. January 7, 2014. IWitness activities can also be assigned and worked on with a tablet, although video editing will need to be done on a Flash-enabled device (laptop, desktop, etc).
This achievement was no small redesign. Working in conjunction with an external consulting team, A3 Media, the USC Shoah Foundation’s Information Technology Services (ITS) and Education teams focused on maintaining the look and feel of the desktop/laptop version of the IWitness website as much as possible.
IWitness provides access to nearly 1,300 full life histories, testimonies of survivors and other witnesses to the Holocaust and other genocides for guided exploration. Students can watch testimonies and use them in individual or group multimedia projects; teachers can assign activities as classwork or homework, and can even custom-build their own lessons and activities. The testimonies are searchable by more than 9,000 keywords, enabling students to pinpoint exact moments of interest within each testimony, which averages two hours in length.
