USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education will support the Six Million Coins™ fundraising initiative, launched by Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles to provide for Holocaust survivors in need of basic necessities.

Contest challenges secondary school students to honor the legacy of Schindler’s List by engaging in community service inspired by survivors’ testimonies and showcasing their action in an IWitness video essay.
Video series for teachers now online
Three professional-development videos for secondary-school teachers are now available on the Institute’s website. The videos, which average 25 minutes in length, delve into the theory and practice of using testimony for education and digital tools such as IWitness.
Holocaust Survivor Stories Inspire Young Artists
Students across the Czech Republic, Hungary, and some regions of Romania, recently participated in a series of contests to create cartoons and drawings inspired by testimony in the Visual History Archive. Originally conceived and organized by Petra Hoffmannova and Jakub Mlynář of the Malach Center for Visual History in Prague, the challenge was replicated and inspired more than 120 grammar school, high school, and applied graphics students to submit illustrations based on the experiences of Holocaust survivors.
IWitness and Echoes and Reflections Training in Knoxville, TN (February 2013)
Educators from the state of Tennessee, some traveling up to three hours, gathered at the Sara Simpson Professional Development Technology Center in Knoxville to participate in an Echoes and Reflections program on Wednesday, February 13. Organized by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission Inc., more than 20 secondary school educators received training as well as a copy of the award-winning Echoes and Reflections resource guide.
