USC Shoah Foundation’s liaison in Poland, Monika Koszyńska coordinates the Visual History Archive access sites in Poland; represents the Institute at conferences and seminars; organizes the Teaching with Testimony in the 21st Century training program for Polish educators; and coordinates fundraising and other outreach efforts. She is also on the staff of the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews’ education department, a Visual History Archive Access Site.

Los Angeles, April 1, 2015 – To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in April, USC Shoah Foundation — The Institute for Visual History and Education will debut a month-long series of testimony clips from survivors and witnesses of the 20th century’s first genocide.One clip a day are being released on the Institute’s website at sfi.usc.edu through the last day of April, which is Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. Included on the month-long timeline will be the April 24 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide’s onset.

Dr. Jared McBride is the first recipient of the Margee and Douglas Greenberg Research Fellowship at USC Shoah Foundation Center for Advanced Genocide Research.

Los Angeles, Feb. 17, 2015 – USC Shoah Foundation - The Institute for Visual History and Education is pleased to announce Stephen A. Cozen as chairman of its Board of Councilors. Cozen, founder and chairman of the law firm Cozen O'Connor, will provide leadership to the board, which guides strategic direction and policy on the dissemination, scholarship, and educational use of the 53,000 testimonies in the Institute’s Visual History Archive. Cozen succeeds Robert Katz, who has served as board chair since May 2010.

I found as a teacher that the most challenging task when teaching about the Holocaust and genocide, is how to do it not using material that shocks the students to the point that they do not want to look at the content, study the history or listen to present day issues due to the emotional shut down that can occur.

The USC Shoah Foundation Center for Advanced Genocide Research invites applications from senior scholars for its 2016-2017 Center Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides $30,000 support and will be awarded to an outstanding senior scholar from any discipline who will advance genocide research through the use of the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive and other USC resources.

Sarah Griffitts is a social studies high school teacher at the Calgary Board of Education in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  She received a BA in History at Mount Royal College and an MA in History from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.  Her master’s thesis focused on the establishment of Chelmno and Sobibor through the path of the Einsatzgruppen. 

The Holocaust may not seem obviously relevant for Hungarian students studying for their master’s in social work, nursing and other health-related topics. But a "Teaching with Testimony in the 21st Century" graduate is using testimony to teach just such a course

Almost twice as many people watched testimony across all of USC Shoah Foundation’s platforms and programs this year compared to the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Google Translate is now embedded in the IWitness website, making it possible, for the first time, for non-English speaking users to view the site in their own language.

For Jared McBride, the 2014-2015 Margee and Douglas Greenberg Fellow, using multimedia techniques in his research not only helps him form more detailed historical narratives of what happened on the ground during the Holocaust, it also helps him reach more people today about the importance of understanding this major historical event.

A Holocaust studies professor from the Russian State University for Humanities in Moscow has been awarded the 2015-16 Center Fellowship by USC Shoah Foundation’s Center for Advanced Genocide Research.

Detroit, Michigan — May 13, 2015 — Steven Spielberg, founder of USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education, will present William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, with the Institute’s Ambassador for Humanity Award at the organization’s annual gala, taking place this year in Detroit on Sept. 10. Ford will be recognized for his leadership and corporate citizenry around education and community. Mickey Shapiro, real estate developer and longstanding member of the Institute’s Board of Councilors, is the event’s co-chairman.

V posledních týdnech českou společnost rozdělily názory na vlnu uprchlíků mířících i přes naše území do Německa. Archiv vizuální historie USC Shoah Foundation nabízí možnost reflexe současného dění pomocí vzpomínek na historické události podobného rázu. Není to totiž poprvé, co se s uprchlíky setkáváme. Například v letech 1946–1947 přes naše území přešlo až 200 000 židovských běženců, kteří prchali z Polska před nenávistí, násilím a pogromy.

The Eugene and Eva Schlesinger Endowed Teacher Workshop on the Holocaust at California State University, Long Beach, July 13-17 will include instruction on both Echoes and Reflections and IWitness.
