A cohort of forty-one new students and five returning Junior Intern Emissaries convened virtually on November 14 for the first session of the 2021-2022 William P. Lauder Junior Internship Program.

The highly selective program provides a dynamic and unique learning opportunity for students in 7th–11th grades to engage with testimonies–personal stories–from survivors and witnesses of genocide to develop their own voice, learn to recognize the patterns and impact of hate, and gain work experience and academic and digital skills.

USC Shoah Foundation is looking for 40 students across the country in 7th– 11th grades representative of diverse backgrounds and academic skills who are interested in participating in its highly competitive William P. Lauder Junior Internship Program. The program provides a dynamic and unique learning opportunity to engage with testimonies – personal stories – from survivors and witnesses of genocide to develop their own voice.

This summer, USC Shoah Foundation education team hosted their annual Leadership Workshop—Action and Values presented by the William P. Lauder Junior Internship Program.

The workshop calls for applicants who are preparing themselves to be in leadership positions in their communities. The focus is to cultivate, through the power of testimony, the confidence and courage to be an upstander. Testimonies, with their powerful universal messages, instill in students the importance of personal stories, values, and agency.

Southern California students in the seventh grade and above are welcome to apply to the highly competitive internship program, which provides a dynamic learning opportunity for young people who will engage with testimonies from survivors and witnesses of genocide.

During the Institute's inaugural summer William P. Lauder Internship Program, about two-dozen young people came to USC Shoah Foundation from across the country to participate in the intensive program, which focused on the causes and impacts of injustice and the ways an individual can respond.

All this week, 25 middle and high school students from across the United States will be at USC Shoah Foundation to gain a deeper understanding of the causes and impacts of injustice and to learn about becoming active participants in civil society.

The broadcast will go live on USC Shoah Foundation’s Facebook page on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. At that time, the Junior Interns will have a chance to ask Lebovics questions about her message. Viewers will also have the opportunity to ask Lebovics questions in the comments on the Facebook post.
