Wendy Lower Lecture: "I Wanted to Prove Myself to the Men: Female Perpetrators in the Killing Fields of the Holocaust”

On January 26, 2012, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., the USC Shoah Foundation offered a lecture entitled I Wanted to Prove Myself to the Men:  Female Perpetrators in the Killing Fields of the Holocaust, in the Social Sciences building on the USC campus.  The lecture featured Wendy Lower, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of History and lecturer at Maximilians University, Munich.  Drawing from wartime documents, postwar trials, private letters, and interviews, this lecture focused on outstanding cases of women who participated in the Holocaust, some in ghetto liquidations and mass sh

Educational Outreach to Czech Borderlands

On January 24 to 26, 2012, on the eve of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, educational resources offered by four organizations were presented to Czech teachers in a unique pilot event.  Experts from Yad Vashem, the Educational Center of the Jewish Museum of Prague, the Terezin Memorial, and the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, partnered with local activists to showcase the educational materials and other resources made available by their organizations.  The traveling seminar visited the cities of Ústí nad Labem, Klášterec nad Ohří, and Varnsdorf, in the Czech borderlands

350 Students Participate in Launch of IWitness at the UN

More than 350 New York metropolitan area high school students debuted the work that they completed in the IWitness application at the United Nations Headquarters, on January 23, 2012.

The event was cosponsored by the United States Mission to the United Nations, and held in observance of the International Day of Commemoration, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.  The theme of the week of events for 2012 at the United Nations is “Children and the Holocaust.”

Doris Felsen-Escojido, the Institute's regional consultant in Italy, gives a presentation on the Institute's work and the Archivio di Stato's online portal, Ti racconto la storia:  voci dalla Shoah, in Turin, Italy, January 11, 2012.  The portal provides access to Italian language testimonies from the Institute's video archive.
