L.A. City Council Honors Institute on Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day

On April 20, at Los Angeles City Hall, Councilmembers Paul Krekorian and Eric Garcetti recognized the USC Shoah Foundation Institute and the Armenian Film Foundation for working jointly to preserve memories of survivors and other witnesses of the Armenian Genocide.

Yom Hashoah Commemoration with Father Patrick Desbois (April 19, 2012)

Father Patrick Desbois, co-founder of Yahad–In Unum, and author of The Holocaust By Bullets, gave the keynote address at the Institute's 2012 Yom Hashoah commemoration.  The event took place on April 19 at USC.

Yehuda Bauer's Inaugural Yom Hashoah Lecture at the Institute, April 16, 2012

Yehuda Bauer, one of the foremost authorities on the subject of the Holocaust, made an exclusive trip to Los Angeles to give the Institute's inaugural Yom Hashoah lecture on April 16.  Bauer, who is the Institute's scholar-in-residence, discussed the roots of genocide and realistic approaches to overcoming it.  Listen

USC Institute of Armenian Studies Honors the Institute

The USC Institute of Armenian Studies held a gala banquet on April 15 to honor the Institute for championing the Armenian Genocide Digitization Project, which aims to digitally preserve all existing eyewitness testimony related to the genocide.  The Armenian Film Foundation’s interviews will be the first collection in the project.  press release

South Africa and Rwanda, April 2012

2012 Student Voices Film Contest

The 2012 Student Voices Film Contest was held April 5, 2012.  The evening included an award ceremony, screening, and panel discussion.

Fifteen short films were submitted this year and developed around the following themes:  Whose Responsibility is "Never Again,” Inheriting Genocide, and The Outsider in Me.
