You never know what you are going to discover in the Visual History Archive. Each one of the 53,000 testimonies in the Archive tells a different story of life before, during and after the individual’s experience with genocide.

Eighteen posters from around the world that cry out for an end to violence against women are the subject of Denouncing Violence Against Women, an exhibit at the USC Fisher Museum of Art. Part of USC's Genocide Awareness Week, the exhibit includes Holocaust witness testimony from the Visual History Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation. The exhibit is open to the public from April 8-21, 2013.

In the spring of 1915, the Young Turk regime of the Ottoman began a genocide against its Armenian population under the cover of World War I. This minute-long excerpt features survivor Haroutune Aivazian.  He describes the horror his mother faced when a town crier in Marash, a city in Cilcia in South West Anatolia, called for the Armenians of the community to gather in a square just outside of the town for deportation. As his mother prepared for the journey, a local Turkish man warned the family that deportation meant death.

USC Shoah Foundation invites proposals for its 2015-16 Rutman Teaching Fellow program that will provide summer support for one member of the University of Pennsylvania faculty to integrate the Institute’s testimonies into a new or modified existing course.

Today supporters of the Shoah Foundation celebrated the dedication of the new Tapper Research and Testing Center at the Foundation’s Los Angeles headquarters. The dedication of the Center, named for benefactor Albert M. Peter Hayes is Professor Emeritus of History and German and Theodore Zev Weiss Holocaust Educational Foundation Professor Emeritus of Holocaust Studies at Northwestern University and a former chair of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Among his thirteen books are The Oxford Handbook of Holocaust Studies (co-edited with John K. Roth), How Was It Possible? A Holocaust Reader, and Why? Explaining the Holocaust, which also has appeared in German and Spanish translations and shortly will be in Chinese, Polish, and Slovak, as well.

Salzburg University will provide local access to the USC Shoah Foundation Institute’s Visual History Archive containing almost 52,000 testimonies of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses, recorded in 56 countries and in 32 languages.This is the first site in Austria to have access to the entire Visual History Archive, and it is linked to Freie University in Berlin which also has access to the archive in its entirety.  Local Salzburg historian and former survivor interviewer, Albert Lichtblau, was instrumental in arranging access at Salzburg University.

Dr. Robert J. Williams is the Chief Executive Officer and Finci-Viterbi Chair of the USC Shoah Foundation. He is UNESCO Chair on Antisemitism and Holocaust Research and the Advisor to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, where he also served for four years as chair of the Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial.

The USC Shoah Foundation Center for Advanced Genocide Research invites proposals for its 2016-2017 Teaching Fellowship that will provide support for university and college faculty to integrate testimonies from the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive (VHA) into new or existing courses. This fellowship is only available to faculty at universities and colleges that subscribe to the VHA, either directly or through ProQuest.

At a time of heightened political uncertainty and polarization, middle and high school teachers are in need of easy-to-use resources that encourage their students to grapple with some of the most difficult but important topics: hate, racism, intolerance and xenophobia.

Six months after it launched, the online guest book has gathered a remarkable collection of messages from people who have been affected by testimony. All are encouraged to sign the guest book until Dec. 31, 2014.
